Moms Shortcake

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter. Add egg and vanilla, then add milk. Batter will be stiff. Grease pie tin or 8 in cake pan. Sprinkle sugar on top and bake (400) 15-20 min until brown on top. Cut into wedges. Set in dessert bowls. Cut into layers and top with fresh strawberries which have been mixed with sugar and left to set. The juicier the better. Mash a few of the berries to bring out the juice. Pour on the heavy cream or whipped cream. We like to soak the cake with both heavy cream and whipped cream. Top with one perfect berry, stem and all
